Diabetes & Chiropractic?
Are your chiropractic adjustments contributing to better systemic health, as your chiropractor says they do? Here is a small study on adjustments to a diabetic that you may find interesting:
Researchers are finding evidence that chiropractic adjustments might be a valuable contribution to an overall program of wellness care to help diabetes sufferers.
A study published in the Journal of Vertebral
Subluxation Research focused on the positive response to chiropractic
care of a patient. The patient also was given nutritional and exercise guidance.
After 1 month, the patient's glucose blood and urine levels had normalized
and remained stable. According to the author of the research, "It is unclear how much impact chiropractic care might have on patients with diabetes. Further study is necessary to determine if there is a subset of patients with diabetes that might respond to chiropractic incorporated with other methods of care."
Journal editor Matthew McCoy, DC said, "For more than 100 years, chiropractors have maintained that what they do affects organ system function and general health. Case studies like this demonstrate the urgency for more research on chiropractic beyond neck and back pain."
Smart Feet Comment: Attention chiropractors and diabetic physicians! Someone get a study started, please! This kind of study is easily replicated and the data would be objective. Imagine the health plan savings and quality of life for diabetics if chiropractors and diabetic physicians working together could reduce the amount of drugs diabetics take.
