Therapeutic Massage Education in Savannah
Do you ever feel like you could use a good massage? Well Savannah is
the place to be! Not only is Savannah proper home to 6 colleges and Universities
(including cosmetology and barber colleges), it has two massage schools.
You could say that 25% of the higher education institutions in Savannah
are dedicated to massage education! And, how about the fact that 5 of
these 8 institutions are on the Southside? Is Southside Savannah a college
town? I've not heard anyone say that, but perhaps it is time we do! Also
on the Southside are Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah State
University, and Savannah Technical Institute.
The two massage schools are Savannah School of Massage Therapy, Inc.,
and DoveStar School of Massage and Healing Arts. Chris Masters started
Savannah School of Massage Therapy in 1999. Chris' background was in
aeronautical engineering, having worked for SONY and Gulfstream. Despite
his engineering education, Chris wanted to do something that would make
a difference in peoples' lives. After becoming involved in massage, he
realized that with a school he could help even more people.
Kamala St. Germain started Savannah DoveStar in 2000. Her first school,
DoveStar Institute, was founded in New Hampshire in 1964 and there are
4 other schools in New England and South Carolina. Kamala's passion is
in making her schools a space for educational and spiritual growth. She
has been teaching over 43 years and along with the DoveStar Institutes,
she is the founder of EarthStarRSVP Retreats, Seminars and Visionary
Productions.
Both schools are licensed by the State of Georgia and tuition is that
of a private school. SSOMT is nationally accredited, giving students
access to educational grants and loans.
The core curriculums of both massage programs are similar since they
prepare students to pass the national exam (a requirement to practice
in the State of Georgia), but their other offerings and approaches differ.
For someone interested in helping others through massage therapy, the
schools in Savannah offer distinct options.
Both schools take appointments for student supervised massages. Gift
certificates are available. Prices vary with the type of massage and
the experience of the student. The prices run well below those of a licensed
therapist in other venues.
Massage therapists work in medical settings, spas, and in private practice
around Savannah. With many receiving their education here, clients benefit
from the variety of styles available. Those working in medical settings
in Savannah are highly regarded for their knowledge and professionalism.
