Tribble Park is brand new for Savannah – as a park, that is. Its former
life was as a wastewater treatment plant for the City. It sits on 55 acres
in the middle of Windsor Forest, at 12519 Largo Drive (just beyond Windsor
Rd). It is a well-used park, even as new as it is. I have been there several
times and there have been families, singles, dogs, baby carriages and bikes
galore. Look out Forsyth Park!
The lake has an island in the middle and is surrounded by a walking
trail that is ˝ mile around. Benches, trash cans and lights are in with
a fishing dock and picnic pavilion to come. No water fountains are in
but since it is a public park, they will probably be provided. Ducks
and turtles are enjoying the lake, as are a few dogs (although they technically
aren’t allowed off the leash). There is open space where you can have
your kids or grandkids runs sprints until they get so tired you stay
sane. As the sun comes up and comes down, it is a beautiful place to
be. The lake is an excellent reflector.
Trees are on the outside of the walking trail so there is no natural
tree covering from the sun on parts of the trail. That changes throughout
the day as the sun moves. Since it is only ˝ mile around, there isn’t
too much suffering involved, probably 5 minutes at a time, when it is
really hot.
Dogs are allowed and, at least at this time, people are picking up after
them! Even though there are lights, for those so inclined there are way
too many hiding places and getaway routes through the woods to make it
safe at night.
At this time, the green space is just mowed natural grasses; nothing
is really landscaped besides the entrance. Hopefully, they will keep
it that way - a simple walk in the park.
